Surta Se Srajan, Community-led Learning Centre

Who are a non-profit organization named Pipilitara Foundation, founded in June 2022. One of our core focuses is on providing access to quality education in the tribal villages of Chhattisgarh. At present we run Surta Se Srajan; a community-led learning center in collaboration with the community of Village Dakkotola that aims to provide an inclusive, participatory learning space that generates and ensures community’s interest towards holistic education thereby strengthening local leadership to bring collective impact in Dakkotola and neighbouring villages/communities. The center’s current focus is towards enhancing literacy and 21st century skills, Socio-Economic, Ethical values & leadership capabilities of the children in the age group of 3-16. It has a mini library that includes children’s literature from various publications such as Ektara, Eklavya & others, career guidance books etc. The center provides context based integrative learning exposure through monthly thematic workshops using creative pedagogies based on music, nature, theater and so on. Its regular functioning is through the Children’s management committee along with the Community Resource Person. The center also works together with government schools that are in the vicinity of Dakkotola through conducting multiple creative exposure sessions for other school children. Though the journey of Surta Se Srajan has just started, it is resulting in enhancing children’s leadership values, self-expression along with developing sharp & creative learning patterns. But, to bring a sustainable impact the center envisions creating a model community library for which it needs support in providing a variety of children’s literature in Hindi, English, Chhattisgarhi and Marathi languages. It also needs support in accessing learning resources like art, science and sports based materials, toys or any other that can be meaningful for children.
